The Thursday group of the Bankstown Sports Men’s Social Golf Club play monthly on the third Thursday of the month. Not great golfers, but good mates who enjoy a hit. Come and join us for a game if you are available through the week.
2026 Golfing year

One of our newer members, Peter has another win!

Old mates results from Auburn Christmas Mulligan. Thanks for a great year with golf played in the true spirit of SOCIAL golf. See you in 2026.

Our happy winners today. Never a doubt, Nev carried Viet right round the course.

Just the seven players out on the course at Woodville. Our numbers are being hit hard by illness and injury at the moment. Hope to see you back on the course when you are recovered.

Auburn was washed out last week and it seems few wanted to play this week so there is no Old Mates game this month. The September game will be played on the 25th September at Bankstown. Note this is the fourth Thursday due to an event being on at Bankstown.
Only had 8 starters this week and unfortunately Peter and Ron had to pull out at the 9th. Peter Brennan welcomed back with a very good win. Next game is Woodville, hope to see more there.
I don’t know how much more golf I will be playing so I am looking for a volunteer or two to take over the role of organising Old Mates. Happy to assist with a handover period.

Bankstown stableford results
Just the 11 starters at Bankstown today. Great to see Freddie Naylor back having a swing, he has been through a lot. Also welcomed two new members to old Mates in Ashish and Peter.

Georges River stableford results
Not too many scores to be proud of today, but it was good to see Peter Prassad make a guest appearance. Note the next game at Bankstown tees off at 10.30am.

Next two Old Mates games at Bankstown
Bankstown Golf Club advises that our hit-off time on Thursday 17 July has been pushed back to 10.30 and another event on 18 September means that the course is not available.
Please let me know if you are happy with the later start on 17 July?
The Thursday before and the Thursday after are available. Do we move to one of those dates or should we try for another course on 18 September?
Auburn Tennis Club/Bankstown Sports Challenge

Players involved in the first Auburn Tennis/Bankstown Sports ambrose challenge.
Terrific day yesterday to see the two clubs coming together for our first Ambrose challenge. The rain stayed away and the course was in great condition. Good turn out of 22 players. Plenty of golf stories shared after the game. The overall result (matchplay style) was a 5-nil victory to Auburn Tennis Club. Well done to our visitors.

Only managed to field 10 players today with Easter coming up. Woodville Golf Course looks in fine condition. Wonderful effort from Colin in the putting.

Quite a few missing today for health and other reasons so we had 11 enthusiastic starters. Congratulations to Peter on a very good win. Quite abnormal achievement from Viet Lo as well.

Another good turn out for our first ambrose game at Bankstown yesterday. Nineteen players including for visitors from Auburn Tennis Social Golf Club.

Bankstown: Thursday 23 January 2025 2-ball ambrose (Pick your partner)
The next Old Mates game is this Thursday
Bankstown Golf Club tells me that due to their purchase of new carts our fees have increased. They are charging us $55 this year. As Bankstown Sports reduced our grant this year the subsidy will be only $5. So for our members the cost to you will be $50. Four members from the Auburn Tennis Club Social Golf Club will be going us on Thursday.
On a sadder note one of our original Old Mates members, Bob Parker passed away yesterday. Our members pass on their condolences to Bob’s family.
Record turn out of 19 players for the Christmas Mulligan at Auburn today. Some good scores with some great putting. Great to see Garry and Peter Toogood back on the course after recent health issues.
The game was followed by a lunch at the Auburn Tennis Club. To all the Old Mates wishing you a very merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy new year.

Auburn Christmas Mulligan Results

Congratulations to Freddie and Andrew on the very good win today. Andrew was a special guest today from our fellow Bankstown Sports group club the Auburn Tennis Club Social Golf.

Reminder that the Old Mates November game at Bankstown has been moved to 28th. Presentation Day is coming up at noon on 1st Dec at the Bowling Club. We need to know numbers for catering so please let me know if you will be attending, alone or with partner?

Not sure if these are right, seems to me like there are too many Old Mates breaking a hundred????

Old Mates 2-ball multiplier results
Very tough conditions at Bankstown today. We played off the back markers, the wind was blowing a gale, the greens were impossible to read and the course was upside down. The 10th is now the 1st. Congratulations to our winners. Remind me to take photos next time.
Note change to date for next game, now 17th October as the following Thursday clashes with the trip away.

Old Mates Bankstown results 16 May 2024

The photo above typifies what most of our 15 starters faced at Bankstown on Thursday. Not so, Viet Lo who came in with a solid 88 off the stick to win the days event. Ray Rywak took out the prize for the SuperStick as well.
Please note the next game will be an individual stable ford event. The 2-ball ambrose, where partners are drawn out of a hat will be played at the next Bankstown game when we will all be in carts.

Old Mates Auburn Results 18 April 2024

Our happy winner on countback today. Well played Pierre!

Tough conditions today at Auburn with the rainy weather and thick rough but despite this a good turn out of 15 keen members manage to survive the conditions.

First Bankstown Game
Old mates were excited to play our first game at Bankstown Golf Club today following the amalgamation of Bankstown Sports and Bankstown Golf Club. Conditions were quite tough and wet under foot. We welcomed three of our Sunday players who were still on holidays. See today’s results below.

First Bankstown Game: Thursday 18th January at 9.30
Our first game at Bankstown is coming up this Thursday at 9.30am. The cost is $50 per player which includes a cart. Hoping as many can attend as possible. The golf club may need an indication of numbers attending so please let me know if you will be there.
Tomorrow’s game at Auburn has been cancelled due to inclement weather and Christmas commitments. Have a great Christmas!
Note: All games at Bankstown are 9.30 hit-offs. The cost is $50 per player which includes the use of a cart.

Old mates Georges River results 16 Nov 2023
Unfortunately missing many players today, but despite that a fine day for golf. Congratulations to Ron on his first win since joining us on Thursdays.

First game at Canterbury
Our lowest ever roll-up for our “experimental” game at Canterbury Golf course. Eight brave old mates managed to find the first tee. The course was in reasonable condition and is a pleasant, easy layout. It’s a nine-hole course and we expected to play it twice this mornings, but unfortunately the rain tumbled down before we had completed the first nine. No results were recorded for the day.
Most agreed we should try the course again next year, though the limited availability of carts is a problem.
Old mates Auburn results 21 Sept 2023
Smaller group today but a great day for golf. Congratulations to Ray on his win.
Old Mates is venturing to a new course next month, we will be trying Canterbury for the first time. Kiwi and Freddie have put their hands up to do the barbecue!

Perfect weather and a rejuvenated course that is great condition greeted out 11 starters today. Results are shown below.

The results of our recent individual stableford game at Auburn are shown below.
Good to see Bob Toogood in the winner’s circle and it was nice to welcome back Garry Toogood and Ray Rywak after returning after medical conditions.

Beautiful day and course in great condition for the Old Mates game at Woodville on Thursday 15 June 2023. Congratulations to Viet on a strong win.

Georges River 20 April 2023
Very small turn out for this game which was postponed from the week before. Still a good day out. Bobby Toogood managed to win the day.

Old Mates results at Woodville 16 Feb 2023
Great turn out of 19 players for this 2-ball aggregate game. Congratulations to our winners, good day had by all.

The washed out Old Mates game for January was played today (2.2.23). Thirteen starters battled tough conditions with the rough being very long, resulting in some low scores and quite a few lost balls. The heat of the day didn’t help either.
The game was followed by a barbecue and a few beers. Thanks for the generous donation by George Khoury and Allan Winterbottom who donated all of the food and drink.

Unfortunately an error was made on a player’s card and the actual winner of the day is shown below.

Happy winner on the day, Peter Toogood and John McCann just missing a birdie putt.

Fixtures for 2022

Georges River results 20 Oct 2022
Fortunately we managed to avoid most of the rain and got our 18 holes in. The course was in reasonably good condition considering all the rain we have had. Another good day enjoyed by all.

Results of stableford event at Woodville on 18 August 2022

A 2-ball multiplier event was held at Georges River on 16 June 2022 with 12 starters. The results of the day are shown below. Congratulations to Viet Lo and Ian Ramsay. Viet Lo was a swinger in the last group and managed to win and pick up the Bradman’s on the same day.

Woodville 21 April 2022
Seven intrepid players took on the long rough and crows at Woodville on Thursday. As the group was so small no competition was held and the game was played as a social hit. Next game will be Old Mates first at Hurstville on 19 May with a 7.30 start.

Tough day today with long wet rough making playing conditions difficult. Still we had a good day!
